The Pearson BTEC Level 7 Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership is described as the best competency development programme in strategic management available in Sri Lanka today. This Pearson Level 7 programme is classified in the ‘UK Qualification and Credit Framework’ (QCF) as a Masters Level / Post Graduate qualification facilitating students to gain direct admission to the Research Stage in the prestigious and highly respected Derby MBA. This is the only course available in Sri Lanka that comprehensively covers all aspects of Strategy.
En-route to the MBA, students are required to study 11 course work modules on Strategic Planning, Strategic Change Management, Strategic Marketing Management, Strategic Human Resource Management, Strategic Supply Chain Management and Logistics, Strategic Quality and Systems Management, Corporate Communication Strategies, Managing Financial Principles & Techniques, Creative and Innovative Management, Developing Strategic Management and Leadership Skills and Professional Development for Strategic Managers.
MODULES OF STUDY:
- Strategic Planning : This unit provides a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of strategy, what drives strategy and why a company need to use ‘differentiation’ as the fundamental strategy. The learner will understand the process of developing a strategic plan together with relevant tools and techniques. The connectivity between Leadership and Strategy is illustrated with many case studies.
- Strategic Change Management: Enables learners to develop the skills of leading and effecting ‘change’ in order to achieve strategic redirection and innovation. Understanding issues relating to change, developing appropriate models for change and managing resistance to change constitute learning in this module.
- Strategic Marketing Management: Provides the connectivity between corporate strategy and strategic marketing. Includes comprehensive insights into tools used in strategic marketing, positioning and planning. Learners will be able to apply different strategic options to respond to changes in the marketing environment.
- Strategic Human Resource Management: Enables the learner to understand how strategic human resource management supports employee engagement, learning and innovation in the process of achieving corporate goals. Learning in this module will help to align HR goals with vision, mission and goals of the organisation.
- Strategic Supply Chain Management & Logistics: On the importance of supply chain and logistics management and its relevance to strategic success. The learners will gain insights into developing the supply chain process to derive strategic advantages. Module includes insights on the use of information technology to optimise supply chain management and to enhance supplier relationships. The knowledge gain on the role of logistics and procurement will contribute to organizational outcomes.
- Strategic Quality & Systems Management: Provides insights for learners to understand the importance of quality, quality systems management and developing ‘quality’ as a strategy to enable achievement of competitive advantage.
- Corporate Communication Strategies: On the critical role of corporate communications and its impact on creating ‘positive branding’ in all frontiers of stakeholders. Extensively covers the process of conducting internal and external corporate communication audits to evaluate the effectiveness of current practices
- Managing Financial Principles & Techniques: Provides learners the skills to apply financial insights relevant to strategic management in an organisational context, including capital appraisal, financial appraisal and analysis. Module includes very important learning on costing, budgeting, interpreting financial statement and use of activity based costing. This learning could be effective in productivity enhancement and cost reduction.
- Creative & Innovative Management: Focuses on the significance of creating a companywide innovation culture and what a company needs to do to establish an innovation pipeline to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. Learning includes innovation strategies and principles, types and dimensions of innovation together with many case studies illustrating Blue Ocean Strategies, Business Modeling Innovation and Disruptive Innovation.
- Developing Strategic Management & Leadership Skills: Provides insights into the critical linkage between strategic management and the role of leadership in creating strategy, direction and alignment. Learning includes understanding and developing leadership skills and linking leadership and organizational success and sustainability
- Professional Development for Strategic Managers: Facilitates the learner to develop competencies required to function effectively at senior management level in establishing strategic direction and leadership. Learners will be able to design and implement a personal development plan.

The supported distance learning mode includes text books and study packs, academic articles, video lectures and other relevant video clips that will enrich and enhance the effectiveness of leaning. In addition there will be guidance on the fulfillment of assignments and students could speak to the lecturers via telephone or skype for further guidance. Students will also have the facility of visiting the institute to obtain specific assistance or attend class room sessions whenever possible.
MBA (MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DEGREE) FROM UNIVERSITY OF NORTHAMPTON, UK
At HRMI, Students will gain admission to the Northampton MBA programmes with 120 credit exemptions out of a total of 180 credits necessary to complete the MBA. Only the Research and 3 research related learning modules are required to be fulfilled by BTEC Level 7 holders to qualify for the award of MBA degree.
