GLOBAL TOURISM
According to World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the number of international tourist arrivals worldwide is expected to increase by an average of 3.3% a year over the period 2010 to 2030, equalling 43 million. At the projected rate of growth, international tourist arrivals worldwide are expected to reach 1.4 billion by 2020 and 1.8 billion by the year 2030. The Americas indicate the strongest growth in the Tourism industry followed by Asia, Pacific and the Middle East.

Lonely Planet named Sri Lanka as its best tourist destination for year 2013 while National Geographic Traveler featured Sri Lanka in its UK edition highlighting 21 must-see places. Sri Lanka also topped the best 13 locations selected by British Airways. With the anticipated increase in inbound tourists; the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors will experience an exponential growth and a major demand for human resources at all levels. Some of the biggest international hotels including Shangri-La Colombo, Hyatt Regency, Movenpick, Sheraton, Marino Sands Hotel, ITC Hotel, Cinnamon Life and Suncity Business Hotels are expected to start operations soon. This expansion in the global and local tourism industry will provide thousands of employment and migration opportunities for qualified Tourism and Hospitality management professionals.

Progression Pathway :
Students have the flexibility to pursue the Diplomas as well as to continue their studies to complete the Honours Degree.


Entry Qualifications :
• GCE (A/L) 2 passes from any stream (or Pending A/L Results) - with English and Mathematics at O/L OR
• Certificate course in Travel, Tourism, Hospitality OR equivalent from a recognised institution
• GCE (O/L) with English and Mathematics and 2 years work experience in Hospitality and Tourism


Learning Options / Lecture Schedule :
Every Sunday from 8.45 am to 4.30 pm
Students with 3 years work experience as an Executive or with a related Diploma could be considred for direct
entry to Stage 2
