HRMI (Human Resource Management Institute) is a leading institute in Sri Lanka dedicated to providing education and training in Business and Vocational studies. As part of its commitment to promoting research and innovation in the field of Business and Vocational Studies, HRMI is organizing its first research symposium. Here is a potential title for the 2023 international research symposium hosted by the Research Cell, HRMI:

“Innovative Business Strategies for Turbulent Times”

This title reflects the current challenges and opportunities facing the fields of business.

Objectives

  1. To scholars, researchers, and practitioners to share their experiences, research findings, and ideas related to human resource management and business studies.
  1. To identify areas for further research and policy development and support economic and social development.
  1. To enhance the visibility and impact of research in the fields of business and vocational studies.

Target Presenters and Participants

The symposium is open to scholars, researchers, and practitioners in the field of human resource management and Business studies. Participants may be from academia and industry. The symposium will also welcome students who are interested in the field of human resource management and other business studies.

Keynote Speaker

Prof. Aruna S Gamage

PhD (Meijo), M.Sc. (J’Pura), B.Sc. (J’Pura), Certified HR Auditor, IPM (Sri Lanka) and TVRLS (India), National Trainer  

Prof. Aruna Gamage is a Professor in Human Resource Management in the Dept. of the Human Resource Management of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He obtained his First Degree in B.Sc. Management (Sp.) with a First Class Merit Pass in the year 1993 from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.He was awarded the Dr. Patric Mendis Award for the best student of the year for Leadership and Management by the University for his outstanding performance in the year 1993.

He completed his Master Degree in Business Management in the year 2000 at the same University and was able to secure the prestigious MOMBUSHO Scholarship in the same year given by Japanese government to pursue doctoral studies in Japan. He completed his doctoral studies at the Meijo University, Japan in the year 2005 and was awarded the “The Best Foreign Student of the Year Award – 2005” for his outstanding performance by the Meijo University.

He chaired the Third International Conference on Business Management in the year 2006 (ICBM- 2006). Prof. Gamage was the former Head of the Dept. of Human Resource Management and the Coordinator of the MBA/M.Sc in Management Programmes of the Post graduate Centre for Business Studies of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He has been awarded fellowships as a visiting scholar to engage in joined research and teaching by the Meijo University, Japan in 2007 and 2013.

During his stay in Japan as a visiting fellow, he conducted many seminars and workshops for academic staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students of many universities in Japan. At present, he is also working as a visiting lecturer for many Universities and institutions in Sri Lanka. He is also a popular guest lecturer and corporate trainer for many government and private sector institutions. He also conducts motivational seminars and workshops for members of staff of private and public sector institutions, school teachers and children too.

Mrs. Maggie Anderson

PhD(Reading), MA, FCIPD,FHEA,MCMI

Academic Programme Manager – University of Northampton

Mrs. Maggie Anderson is an accomplished Academic Programme Manager at the Faculty of Business and Law at University of Northampton. She holds a BA Hons in Human Resource Management and an MA in Human Resource Management. As a professional member and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), she brings a wealth of knowledge to her role.

Mrs. Anderson’s serving as a human resources and operational manager Warner Brothers International. She has also worked as a consultant, delivering customized HR business solutions to renowned clients such as British Gas, Direct Line, First Direct, Henkel Chemicals, and BT. With a strong focus on recruitment, selection, employment law, and business legislation, she has provided comprehensive HR services to small businesses. In the field of education, Mrs. Anderson excels as a module leader for career development and planning. She has designed and delivered a wide range of academic modules for undergraduate, postgraduate, and distance learning students, both locally and internationally. Her expertise extends to developing professional and accredited programs for external business clients and university partners.

Mrs. Anderson actively engages in research, with a particular interest in employability and continuous professional development. Her ongoing research efforts contribute to the field of human resource management and leadership, ensuring continuous publication and providing valuable insights to the academic community.

Prof. Jayantha Dewasiri

PhD (Col), M.Sc. (J’Pura), B.Sc (Wrexham Glyndwr University, UK)., CMA

Prof. Dewasiri N. Jayantha is a professor attached to the Department of Accountancy and Finance, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. He also serves as the Vice President of Education & Research at the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Finance from the University of Colombo, MS.c in Applied Finance and a Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, BA (Hons) in Business from the Glyndwr University, UK.

Further, He is a member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing, Chartered Institute of Marketing, a Fellow Member of the Chartered Management Institute, and a Certified Management Accountant. After serving 17 years in the industry, he joined academia and he is a pioneer in applying triangulation research approaches in the management discipline. He is currently serving as the Co-Editors-in-Chief of the South Asian Journal of Marketing published by Emerald Publishing, Senior Associate Editor of the FIIB Business Review published by SAGE Publishing, Managing Editor of the South Asian Journal of Tourism and Hospitality published by the Faculty of Management Studies.

He has been awarded for research excellence several times, including the University of Michigan International Mixed Methods Scholarship Award, Grand Winner of the IIARI Luminary Award (2021) in Asia for Research Excellence, Grand Winner of the Deans Award for Research Excellence at the Faculty of Management Studies, the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka for 2021, and several best paper awards at the conferences. He has published extensively in top-tier research journals, including Managerial Finance, Qualitative Research in Financial Markets, Journal of Public Affairs, International Journal of Qualitative Methods, etc. He is the main contributor of the introductory team of the Data Triangulation approach to the finance discipline. Recently, he has been accredited as a Fellow Chartered Manager (FCMI CMgr) by the Chartered Institute of Management, UK. Considering his valuable contribution to research and academia, Emerald Publishing, UK has appointed him as the Brand Ambassador for its South Asian region.

Call for Abstract Submission

We are extending an invitation and providing encouragement to potential authors to submit their valuable research findings. We welcome original and previously unpublished results from various types of work, including conceptual, constructive, empirical, experimental, or theoretical, as long as they align with the conference’s theme and tracks.

Paper Submission (IRCMS 2023)

Every submitted paper will undergo a double-blind peer-review process conducted by a minimum of two reviewers.

For accepted papers, it’s mandatory that they are presented at the conference by one of the authors. Furthermore, each accepted paper must have at least one author who is officially registered for the conference. All registered papers will be featured in the IRCMS 2023 proceedings, which will be published by the Human Resource Management Institute Sri Lanka.
